Alhamdulillah, all praise be to Allah for the success of the Aquaculture Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Djuanda. The Aquaculture team successfully won 3rd place at the Bogor Regency Regional Innovation Showcase held on October 23, 2023. Their innovation, titled “Urban Aquaculture for Ornamental Fish Farming in Limited Space: Profitable and Promising,” was presented by a team consisting of Gugus Candela (team leader) and Prato Widodo Situmorang (member), under the guidance of Dr. Eko Rini Farastuti, M.Si. The competition, organized by Bogor Regency, aims to foster innovation interest, facilitate public creativity in developing innovative solutions, and enhance the innovation culture in Bogor Regency.
The theme chosen by the Aquaculture students and presented at the Regional Innovation Showcase highlighted innovation in pre-spawning and pre-sale handling of cultured fish products. These treatments are intended to minimize fish mortality during shipping. The applied handling includes regular water quality checks and proper packaging adjusted to the shipment requirements. The fish species cultured were Corydoras Adolfoi and Red Lizard, which have been exported to various countries. Therefore, innovations in management and business development are crucial.
This business and innovation development effort, conducted by students through the sale of ornamental freshwater fish, is expected to enhance self-sustained economic growth and expand market reach.
