Agrotechnology Study Program of the Faculty of Agriculture (FAPERTA) Universitas Djuanda (UNIDA) Hosts Practitioner Teaching Session with Ir. Slamet Rahardjo from Corteva Agriscience Indonesia
The Agrotechnology Study Program of the Faculty of Agriculture (FAPERTA), Universitas Djuanda (UNIDA) held a Practitioner Teaching event on Saturday, June 28, 2025, in Classroom B.312, FAPERTA UNIDA. The session featured Ir. Slamet Rahardjo, Country Sales Leader and Member of the Board of Directors of Corteva Agriscience Indonesia, who delivered a presentation titled “Agriculture Input Innovation – A Key Factor in Successful Farming Business.”
The event was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture UNIDA, Dr. Ir. Himmatul Miftah, M.Si, along with the structural leadership of FAPERTA and participating students.
In her opening remarks, Dean Dr. Himmatul Miftah emphasized the importance of collaboration between higher education institutions and the industry. She stated that the presence of Ir. Slamet Rahardjo, representing the global company Corteva Agriscience, was a valuable opportunity for students.
“Mr. Slamet comes from Corteva, a multinational company with a presence in many countries. Despite his busy schedule, he made time to come and share his knowledge. This is an extraordinary opportunity for students to gain global insight into agriculture,” she noted.
At the same event, the Head of the Agrotechnology Study Program, Dr. Muhammad Zainal Fanani, S.P., M.P, expressed that the Practitioner Teaching activity provided a critical moment for students to gain new perspectives.
“Students are usually used to lectures with lecturers, but this time, the atmosphere is different as they can directly listen to real-world experiences from an industry professional,” he said.
Dr. Fanani added that the session was highly relevant in preparing students for the job market, where a combination of academic theory and practical knowledge is essential.
In his presentation, Ir. Slamet Rahardjo explained that Corteva Agriscience was officially established in 2019 as a result of the merger of three major companies: DuPont, Dow, and Pioneer.
He highlighted Corteva’s commitment to customer centricity, placing farmers at the heart of every innovation developed.
“We want to be a solution provider, not just a product seller. Our field team serves as the first point of consultation whenever farmers face challenges,” he explained.
Ir. Slamet also shared that Corteva has established a partnership with UNIDA through internship and research programs, and he welcomed further collaboration opportunities, especially in research areas relevant to Corteva’s line of work — from product impact studies to technical agricultural aspects.
At the end of his talk, Ir. Slamet pointed out some of the key challenges in Indonesia’s agricultural sector, such as labor shortages during planting seasons and land fragmentation, which complicate the adoption of modern technologies.
