Enhancing Aquaculture Students’ Competence through Innovation in Fish Feed Production Using Waste-Based Materials

Last Updated: 1 year ago

Quality of higher education can be reflected through the competencies of its graduates. Student competence in knowledge mastery, skills, and attitude serves as an indicator of their ability to apply what they have learned in their courses. As one of the study programs under the Faculty of Agriculture at Universitas Djuanda, the Aquaculture Study Program holds the responsibility of enhancing student competence in the fields of fisheries and marine science. One of the ways to strengthen students’ expertise in specific courses is through practical laboratory work.

One such practicum is the “Fish Feed Production and Feeding Technology” (TPPI) course, led by Dr. Dudi Lesmana, M.Si. The TPPI practicum aims to implement impactful learning activities that benefit both the university community and society at large.

The first activity conducted involved identifying feed ingredient sources, innovatively utilizing agricultural waste materials such as tofu dregs and rice bran. Following this, the feed formulation was developed based on results from prior research. The fish feed was then produced at Aqil Farm, Jl. Jayapura I, Tlajung Udik, Gunung Putri Subdistrict, Bogor Regency, West Java 16962.

Alhamdulillah, the production process of the waste-based fish feed ran smoothly and, InshaAllah, will equip students with useful knowledge while also providing benefits to the community.

Dr. Eko Rini Farastuti, M.Si, Head of the Aquaculture Study Program at the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Djuanda, stated that the program is committed to supporting the mastery and enhancement of student competence so that they can have a direct impact on society. She also extended her sincere appreciation and gratitude to the students taking the TPPI course and to the course instructor.

“May the Aquaculture Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Djuanda, continue to make meaningful contributions to the community.”
