Bogor – An-Nahdoh Islamic Boarding School, located in Cipayung Village, Megamendung District, Bogor Regency, has now become not only a center of religious education but also a platform for students’ entrepreneurial development. This initiative was realized through collaboration with lecturers from the Faculty of Agriculture, Djuanda University, in a community service program funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology through the Community Partnership Empowerment scheme.
The program carries the theme “Implementation of Aquaponics Technology and Product Marketing at An-Nahdoh Islamic Boarding School to Build an Independent and Productive Generation of Santri.” Its main objective is to equip students with entrepreneurial skills, particularly in the field of aquaponics, so that they can become independent, productive, and competitive after graduating from the pesantren.
The activities also involve five students from the Faculty of Agriculture, majoring in Agrotechnology and Agribusiness. Over the next three to four months, they will accompany the santri through a Community Service Program (KKN) focused on aquaponics practice. The stages include planning, counseling, training, as well as monitoring and evaluation. One of the core activities—counseling and training in aquaponics cultivation—was held on August 5, 2025. During this session, two Agrotechnology lecturers and two Aquaculture lecturers, together with students, directly guided the santri.
The santri were taught both theory and practice of aquaponics management, an integrated system combining fish farming (aquaculture) with soilless plant cultivation (hydroponics). Fish waste, rich in nutrients, is utilized by the plants, while the plants in turn help maintain water quality for the fish. The result is an environmentally friendly cycle with economic value. The enthusiasm of the santri was clearly visible as they experimented with the new technology. “We are very grateful for the implementation of this community service program. Until now, the pesantren has not been able to provide the santri with additional skills to support their independence and competitiveness after graduation. Therefore, this activity is very much in line with the educational goals of An-Nahdoh Islamic Boarding School,” said the Director of the pesantren.
A similar expectation was expressed by one of the lecturers involved. “We hope that the santri, together with the pesantren management, will be able to develop aquaponics-based entrepreneurship independently and sustainably, so that the vision of creating competitive santri can be achieved.” With this program, An-Nahdoh Islamic Boarding School has become not only a place to study religion but also an institution that nurtures a generation of santri ready to face economic challenges with practical skills.
