In the Hijri calendar, the 9th month is the most awaited by Muslims. Known as the holy month of Islam, it is marked by the observance of the Ramadan fast. Fasting is one of the five pillars of Islam that strengthens the foundation of the faith, alongside the shahada, prayer, almsgiving (zakat), and pilgrimage (hajj).
Ramadan fasting plays a crucial role in shaping a Muslim’s character, helping to mold individuals into those with noble personalities. A Muslim with a virtuous character can be seen through their behavior, attitude, speech, and mindset. The Ramadan fast is expected to become a pillar for strengthening Islamic character—training oneself to be more grateful to Allah, developing discipline, patience, compassion for others, and strengthening bonds of brotherhood. The obligation to fast during Ramadan is clearly stated in the Holy Qur’an, Surah Al-Baqarah (2:183), which means:
“O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous (taqwa).”
This blessed and special month is upon us—a month filled with rewards for every act of goodness. Let us welcome it with joy and commit ourselves to worship in the best possible way. Bismillah, let us intend that all our academic and campus activities become acts of worship, seeking the blessings of Ramadan. During the holy month of Ramadan, the Aquaculture Study Program continues its academic activities as usual, in accordance with the policies of the Faculty of Agriculture and Universitas Djuanda. The Head of the Aquaculture Program expressed gratitude for being part of a tauhid-based campus, where fasting during Ramadan is fully supported by both the faculty and the university—through adjusted schedules and spiritual activities that help us strengthen our character as Muslims.
The academic community of the Aquaculture Study Program wishes you a blessed Ramadan 1445 H. Please forgive our physical and emotional shortcomings.
