Eid al-Adha is an important Islamic holiday that falls on the 10th of Dhu al-Hijjah in the Hijri calendar. This year, Eid al-Adha in Indonesia was observed on June 17, 2024. The celebration teaches the values of sacrifice, sincerity, patience, obedience, and generosity. It is marked by the act of animal sacrifice (Qurban) and the obligation to perform the Hajj pilgrimage for those who are financially and physically able.
In the spirit of Eid al-Adha, students from the Animal Science Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Djuanda University, under the guidance of drh. Annisa Rahmi, M.Si, and Dr. Abdullah Baharun, S.Pt., M.Si, conducted a community service program. The main activity was providing health checks for sacrificial animals, ensuring that the meat distributed to mustahik (eligible recipients) met the ASUH criteria—Safe, Healthy, Whole, and Halal. This community service was carried out in the surrounding areas of the Yayasan Pusat Studi Pengembangan Islam Amaliyah Indonesia (YPSPIAI), Djuanda University, and Perguruan Amaliah.
The activity began with antemortem inspections on live animals, which included 21 cows, 4 goats, and 8 sheep. Each animal was assessed for general health conditions such as sex, age, physical defects, and signs of disease. Based on the antemortem inspection, all animals were declared healthy and suitable for slaughter.Next, a postmortem examination was carried out on the carcasses and internal organs of the slaughtered animals. The results showed no significant disease cases, and all meat was deemed safe and suitable for distribution to mustahik.
Additionally, the Qurban health team provided advice and recommendations to the organizing committee regarding animal health, animal welfare, and proper meat handling techniques. This was to ensure that the meat—originating from the pious act of sacrifice by the donors—could be distributed to the community in the best possible condition and with full sincerity.
