Last Updated: 2 years ago

Students from the Agribusiness and Aquaculture Study Programs of the Faculty of Agriculture, Djuanda University, conducted an educational visit to the Center for Freshwater Aquaculture (Balai Besar Perikanan Budidaya Air Tawar – BBPBAT) in Sukabumi on Wednesday, May 15, 2024. The visit was part of the learning activities for the Aquaculture Technology course, aimed at providing students with real-life experience in freshwater aquaculture technology as implemented at BBPBAT Sukabumi.

During the visit, students and lecturers were welcomed by Mr. Jaka Trenggana, S.Pi, from the Partnership and Public Relations Division of BBPBAT. The event began with welcoming remarks from both BBPBAT and a representative lecturer from the Aquaculture Program, followed by a brief introduction to BBPBAT Sukabumi’s profile. In this session, students actively engaged in dialogue about broodstock management and the seed distribution system developed by the center. The first location visited was the koi broodstock pond, where students participated in a Q&A session on broodstock maintenance and koi seed production techniques. The second location was the hatchery pond for "Nila Gesit" and SULTANA (Seleksi Unggul Selabintana), a superior tilapia variety resulting from crossbreeding 10 local Indonesian tilapia strains, cultivated using the Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS). Students also observed and gathered information about local and imported catfish broodstock. The final stop was the biofloc tilapia pond, where students actively explored details of the biofloc system applied at BBPBAT.

The visit concluded with a group photo session and the presentation of a certificate of appreciation from the Aquaculture Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Djuanda University, to BBPBAT. It is hoped that this visit will inspire students to deepen their understanding and application of freshwater aquaculture technologies.
