World Mangrove Day – July 26, 2024

Last Updated: 1 year ago

World Mangrove Day is observed every 26th of July since 2016. The date was set during the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) held in Paris on November 6, 2015.

Why should mangroves be preserved?
Mangrove ecosystems play a vital role in the sustainability of marine, coastal, and terrestrial ecosystems. Mangroves serve an ecological function, including being the foundation of the food chain in water bodies. A well-preserved and healthy mangrove ecosystem provides both direct and indirect benefits to surrounding ecosystems. This crucial role will continue if we protect these ecosystems. Let’s protect our environment from damage, as Allah reminds us in the Qur’an, Surah Al-Araf: 56:
"And do not cause corruption upon the earth after its reformation. And invoke Him in fear and aspiration. Indeed, the mercy of Allah is near to the doers of good.”
This verse serves as a reminder to protect our earth as a form of gratitude for the blessings Allah has given us. Wallahu A'lam Bishawab.
