Kuala Lumpur (30/1/2026) – The Faculty of Agriculture (FAPERTA) of Djuanda University (UNIDA) once again achieved recognition at an international scientific forum. Dr. Muhammad Zainal Fanani, S.P. participated as a presenter at The 6th International Conference on Sustainability in Technological, Environmental, Law, Management, Social and Economic Matters (ICOSTELM) 2026 held at the Grand Hall Tabung Haji Tower & Universiti Geomatika Malaysia.
The conference, which is part of the ASEANACA International Conference series, brought together academics, researchers, and practitioners from various countries to discuss innovative strategies toward sustainable development.
At the forum, Dr. Muhammad Zainal Fanani presented a paper titled: "Integrated Pest Management (IPM): Strategies and Innovations Towards the Achievement of the SDGs."
This presentation highlighted how Integrated Pest Management (IPM) no longer relies solely on conventional approaches, but is now developing through digital technology innovation, sensor-based monitoring, early warning systems, and data-driven decision-making to reduce dependence on chemical pesticides.
Dr. Fanani explained that modern IPM emphasizes ecosystem balance, production efficiency, and food safety, in line with the objectives of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 2 regarding Zero Hunger (sustainable food security), SDG 12 regarding Responsible Consumption and Production, and SDG 13 & 15 regarding Climate Action and Life on Land (sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems).
"IPM strategies integrated with digital technology enable farmers to conduct early pest detection, determine economic thresholds, and select the most environmentally friendly and efficient control methods," he stated. He also added that the implementation of innovation-based IPM can reduce production costs, minimize pesticide residues, improve harvest quality, while maintaining agroecosystem health.
FAPERTA UNIDA's participation in ICOSTELM 2026 demonstrates the university's commitment to developing technology-based and SDGs-aligned sustainable agricultural research, as well as strengthening Indonesia's role in international academic forums in the field of agriculture and global food security.
The Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at Djuanda University, Dr. Abdullah Baharun, S.Pt., M.Si, expressed his appreciation for Dr. Muhammad Zainal Fanani's contribution in bringing the strategic issue of IPM to the international forum. According to him, the development of innovation and technology-based Integrated Pest Management represents a concrete step by UNIDA's Faculty of Agriculture in addressing increasingly complex global agricultural challenges.
"We encourage lecturers to continue producing research that is not only academically excellent, but also has a direct impact on farmers, the environment, and the achievement of SDGs," he said.
