Lecturers and students from the Animal Science Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture (FAPERTA), Universitas Djuanda (UNIDA) conducted a Community Service (PkM) activity in the form of mentoring on the quality of superior sheep and goat breeds at Harkansas & Deny (HD) Farm, Jonggol District, Bogor Regency.
This mentoring activity involved lecturers from the Animal Science Study Program at the Faculty of Agriculture, UNIDA, namely Dr. Abdullah Baharun, S.Pt., M.Si, drh. Annisa Rahmi, M.Si, research partner Pirda Parida Permadani Pertiwi, S.Pt., alumni of the Animal Science Study Program at UNIDA who are also students at the DBR Center for Applied Zoology Research, National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), and involved students from the Animal Science Study Program at the Faculty of Agriculture, UNIDA.
The mentoring focused on evaluating and improving the quality of superior Garut sheep and Ettawa goats, specifically thru semen quality testing and analysis as a basis for enhancing genetic quality and the success of livestock breeding programs at the farm level.
Dr. Abdullah Baharun, S.Pt., M.Si explained that this activity aims to provide science and technology-based assistance so that farmers have accurate data regarding the reproductive quality of their livestock.
"This assistance is expected to help farmers produce high-quality and sustainable superior sheep and goat breeds," he said.
Meanwhile, the owner of HD Farm, Deny, expressed appreciation for the guidance provided by the FAPERTA UNIDA team.
We are grateful for this guidance as it has allowed us to determine the exact quality of the sheep and goat semen we have. "Hopefully, activities like this can continue in the future," he said.
Thru this community service activity, the Animal Husbandry Study Program of the Faculty of Agriculture, UNIDA, reaffirms its commitment to supporting the development of sheep (Garut) and goat (Ettawa) farming as one of the superior local livestock with high economic value and genetic potential.
