The International Day for Biodiversity this year falls on Wednesday, May 22, 2024. Quoted from https://www.cbd.int/biodiversity-day, the theme for the 2024 celebration is "Be part of the Plan." This theme encourages governments, Indigenous peoples, local communities, organizations, businesses, and individuals to implement the Biodiversity Plan. As individuals, we are a vital part of preserving the biodiversity that we are blessed with. Specifically, for those of us in the fisheries and marine sectors, we hold a significant role in maintaining aquatic biodiversity.
The 2024 International Day for Biodiversity serves as a momentum to begin taking an active role in protecting aquatic biodiversity, especially in Indonesia. Some of the efforts we can make include utilizing natural resources wisely, protecting aquatic environments from damage, and contributing to the conservation of aquatic biota. Let us take action together in preserving aquatic biodiversity—because each of us has the power to make a difference.
